Angels & Demons Book Summary

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown Book

The novel starts with the protagonist, Mr. 'Robert Langdon,' a symbologist from Harvard University who was called upon for scientific research facilitated at CERN, Switzerland. He was called to investigate the murder of the famous physicist "Leonardo Vetra" or the mysterious symbol "Illuminati, "which is branded on his chest and with the stolen canister of Antimatter.

'Illuminati' is an ambigram word that looks the same from both upsides down. It is a secretive society that opposes the religious beliefs of the catholic church.

Langdon discovers that the CERN has conducted experiments with Antimatter, a highly explosive matter. When it comes in contact with anything, even air, it explodes fiercely. It has the capacity to blow up an entire city and could have destroyed the lives of everyone forever. Soon, it is discovered that the stolen cistern of Antimatter is kept in Vatican City.

In Vatican City, the church's pope recently died, and his mourning period of 15 days is over. Now, there is a conclave to be chosen by the next pope. For this, the group of cardinals gathered there. Out of those top priorities, the Cardinal was selected as the next pope of the church. But they went missing, or you can say they were perfectly planned kidnappings.

Now, Illuminati comes forward and takes the charges for the kidnapping of the four cardinals as well as stealing of canister antimatter.

As the story unfolds, Mr. Robert and Miss Vittoria Vetra, the main character (another protagonist) of this story, join forces with each other to solve the mystery. Miss Vittoria Vetra, a mysterious Italian scientist, is the daughter of Leonard Vetra. She is a beautiful and intelligent woman. She was a courageous woman and expresses her views without fear. So, with other important characters from CERN. They all fly to Vatican City to find out that the whole quest about the Illuminati and the stolen canister of Antimatter has now been started. Here is a very interesting read to find out about the whole quest and what is going on. How Longdon and Vittoria discover it and the story goes on with much suspense and different endings. The author of this novel describes the line/ gap between science and religion very beautifully. This beautiful art shows both science and religion's light and shadow aspects and is not biased towards any side.

Analysis: -

One of the most preferable endings of this story is that Langdon and Vittoria found the clues about the symbol and the meaning behind it by following demons and angels from one church to another. They find all religious and historical sculptures hidden behind the earth. At last, they destroyed the Antimatter without harming anyone and rescuing one pope. This story revolves around the mysterious symbol Illuminati and their motive behind stealing a canister of Antimatter. Why did they kidnap Cardinal? So many questions are left unrevealed at the end to keep readers intrigued for the next part. The writer maintains the suspense till the end of the story, i.e., who is the main culprit behind the journey.

In the novel, every character has their own story from their perspective. So, it makes the book much more enjoyable for readers." Dan Brown," the author of this novel, has portrayed every character in detail and conveyed the story so beautifully that even though the novel is completely fictional, sometimes it gives the feeling of happening in real life.
