Elizabeth Gilbert was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on July 18, 1969, to a chemical engineer father and a nurse mother. Indeed, Gilbert used to entertain her parents by writing plays and books. From there on, her zest to be a writer developed. She also attended New York University and moved to Philadelphia to work as a waitress. She saved money and traveled to write her first book. From there on, she never looked back and attained tremendous success as a journalist.
Elizabeth’s Divorces and Failed Relationships:
While working at Coyote Ugly Saloon (Restaurant), she met Michael Cooper. They dated for some time and married. But, the marriage could not last longer as Gilbert left him for another man. Indeed, she married José Nunes. She met him in Bali, which was part of her journey for writing Eat, Pray, Love. After a couple of years, both of them separated and did not mention the exact reason. Post her second divorce, she was in a relationship with her fellow woman writer named Rayya Elias. This relationship ended as Elias already had cancer and died in 2018. Further than that, she was in a relationship with a UK-based photographer. This connection was also short lived and they parted ways later. These were her life experiences that occurred on the journey to write Eat, Pray, Love.
Story Behind Eat, Pray, Love:
After her first divorce, Gilbert was depressed and wanted to gather her zest to enjoy life. For this, she decided to travel around the world and approached her publisher to sponsor her trip as she wanted to embark on a journey to write a new remarkable story. As a part of her journey, she stayed for four months in Italy to relish the best food, three months in India to channel her religious energy, and ended her journey in Bali to balance between relishing food as well as religiousness. There she met her second husband and fell in love with him. Later on, they married and parted ways after a few years.
Success of Eat, Pray, Love:
As the novel Eat, Pray, Love is about her life and journey to unleash the spirituality within, the novel turned out to be a huge hit. In fact, it was acclaimed as a bestseller, and a film was made on the same notion. Columbia Pictures bought the film rights and released a spectacular version in 2010. The movie was directed by Ryan Murphy and it had Superstar Julia Roberts as the main lead.
