Eragon – Journey of a Dragon Rider
Abridged Summary:
Noted as the most spectacular fantasy, the novel “Eragon” unveils the tale of amity between a boy and his dragon. It was jotted down by an eminent writer Christopher Paolini in 2001. The story of its publishing is interesting because the writer had to self-published it. Indeed, the popular version was printed in 2001, which made it to the readers’ tables. In the novel, Eragon discovers a strange stone which is revealed as the Dragon’s Egg. It hatched and Eragon decided to rear the dragon. However, he didn’t know that evil king Galbatorix was after the egg. The attack enabled Eragon and Saphira (pet dragon) to flee from their hometown. Further, he met Brom and many other people who helped him become an adept dragon rider and defeat evil forces.
Analytical Portrayal of Eragon’s Journey:
Identifying the Characters:
Considering the portrayal of characters in the novel, Eragon is a farm boy who rears a dragon named Saphira. He is attacked by the evil forces of Galbatorix to acquire the Dragon. Post the attack, Eragon fled with Saphira and met Brom on his journey. He trains him to be an adept Dragon Rider and gives a mission to Eragon. Indeed, the mission is to defeat the evil leader Durza because of his continuous pestering. To fulfill the mission, Eragon is helped by Jeod, Angela, Murtagh, Ajihad, and many other characters. Nevertheless, the journey of Eragon was a blessing in disguise because it revealed his inner strength and resting powers.
Eragon’s Training as Dragon Rider:
After fleeing from their hometown, Eragon and Saphira met Brom (Storyteller). Certainly, he was a part of the last section of Dragon riders who were killed by Galbatorix. Identifying a strong future for Eragon, he decided to train him to be a Dragon Rider. Such riders were trained in tricks and handling weapons that could help them in winning over evil forces. In fact, Brom hands over a special sword Zar’roc to Eragon which will be helpful for him in killing Durza. Besides this, Brom trains Eragon in sword fighting, magic tricks, the ancient Elvish language, and the living methodologies of the Dragon Riders. With all the training, Eragon becomes a master and second Dragon Rider after Galbatorix.
Unveiling Galbatorix’s Jealousy:
Galbatorix has been an evil king, who was livid to see other Dragon Riders flourish in his rule. In fact, he was full of jealousy which forced him to kill all the budding Dragon Riders a century ago. Fortunately, a few of the Dragon Riders were able to save themselves by hiding their identity from others. Needless to say, the Galbatorix was so power-driven that he did not want any other Dragon Rider to exist along with him. Rather, he wanted to establish his supremacy over other people in his vicinity. However, his jealousy made him attack Eragon and Saphira because he wanted to acquire the Dragon’s egg from which Saphira popped.
Winning Over the Evil Forces:
After getting trained by Brom as a proficient Dragon Rider, Eragon is informed by a witch named Angela about his mission to kill Durza. Further, the hunt for the city of Dras-Leona initiates which leads them to Murtagh and Ajihad. Certainly, they help Eragon and Saphira to save themselves from the ambush developed by Ra’zac. After Brom dies, Murtagh becomes Eragon’s companion and helps him in embarking on a win over the evil forces of Durza, resulting in his death. Finally, the mission is over for Eragon and he continues to Ellesméra.
